Why Issues Matter
The Risk Register shows metrics that tell you how risky a project is and how well you're de-risking it as bid day approaches:
- A Requirements score — how complete and aligned your documents are. Roughly, it's the number of RFIs found divided by the drawing page count and scaled by a fixed factor, so it stays proportional to the project's complexity.
- A Risk score — how much risk the project carries, broken down by category. Roughly, it's the number of Schedule and Coordination risks divided by the drawing page count and scaled by a fixed factor, so it stays proportional to the project's size.
- A Progress tracker — a chart of total issues, blocking issues, and resolved issues over time, counting down to bid day.
You "buy down" risk by resolving issues — uploading answers, adding detail, or marking issues resolved. As you do, the scores move.
Workflow example — A week from bid, your Risk score is sitting at a C−. You work the blocking issues first — get three RFIs answered by the architect, upload the responses, and accept two low risks with contingency. The progress tracker shows your blocking-issue line dropping, and you walk into the Go / No-Go meeting able to say exactly what's resolved and what's still open.
